It's fun to think about specs but I think it's really UX that should drive Surface updates. This is also the reason that Microsoft has given for not updating the Surface range as frequently as competitors, they don't want to do updates unless they can bring something new to the user experience. Microsoft started the Surface line because they wanted to reimagine the way people use computers and they felt that OEMs weren't innovating the hardware in this area to keep up with what they wanted to do with Windows OS.
